STEM Jr. Kit: Vegetables

Jr.

Stem Lesson: Vegetables

In this STEM kit, children will learn to identify various vegetables in a fun and educational way.

Start by reading the book, Mrs. Peanuckle’s Vegetable Alphabet by Mrs. Peanuckle. Mrs. Peanuckle’s Vegetable Alphabet introduces babies and toddlers to a colorful variety of vegetables, from asparagus to zucchini. Perfect to read aloud, this vegetable buffet will delight children and parents alike with its yummy vegetable facts and vibrant illustrations. Learning the ABCs has never been so delicious!

After you read the story enjoy playing a vegetable flash card game. It is a great way to introduce vegetables, colors and shapes. Afterwards, enjoy making a Veggie Garden Plate Craft.

Please return laminated directions, flashcards, and book in the canvas bag within two weeks.

Share your creation with me; I will put it on our Instagram page.

Happy Learning!

Ms. Debbie

It is an important part of understanding what is being read. You can see what we do here in storytime, and you may get some ideas of what you can do with your children throughout the day when you play and talk together.

4. Theme Talk: [Children sit in circle]. My name is Ms. Debbie. My first name starts with the letter "D". Who wants to tell me their name? Go around the circle, have parents encourage children to participate and aide them in telling me their first name and the letter their first name starts with. As the children tell me their name, I will be giving out their name plate. Today we are going to read two books, the first one is called Eating the Alphabet: Fruits and Vegetables from A to Z by Lois Ehlert. Can anyone name a plant that we can eat?

5. Book: Eating the Alphabet: Fruits and Vegetables from A to Z by Lois Ehlert 6. Early Literacy Aside: In our storytime we are going to sing a song and play a game about fruits and vegetables. Today when you eat lunch or dinner, try using these words again or introduce new words about the foods you are eating with your child. 7. Information Book: Plants Feed Me by Lizzy Rockwell 8. Activity: Veggie Song

Have volunteer place photo of vegetable on the felt board as we sing the song.

Lyrics: (To the tune of "If you're happy and you know it" If you like lettuce and you know it, clap your hands.

If you like lettuce and you know it, and you really want to show it,
