How to Catch a Dinosaur

This program will be well received by preschool children.

Material:

  • How to Catch A Dinosaur Hunt Template and or How to Catch a Dinosaur Scavenger Hunt Template

  • Dinosaur Worksheets

  • Binocular Craft Kit from Oriental Trading $18.00 for 24

  • Glue Sticks

  • Dinosaur stickers

  • Snack (if time permits) make dinosaur cookies at home . Prep:

  • Print out on card stock, How to Catch a Dinosaur Hunt dinosaurs.

or you can use:



  • Print out Dinosaur Worksheets - color two sided


  • While children are in the program room have volunteer or staff member place dinosaurs around the library.

  • Make cookies in the shape of a dinosaur

  • Set up overhead with computer with YouTube video: https://youtu.be/TjmGTbNLj6Q

In this program we will start with the art project.

Instructions:

  • Have children go to the craft table. For this storytime kids are going to back their craft first. Each child will make a binoculars. Oriental trading has a cheap kit!

  • When all is done, let's look around for dinosaurs in the children's room with our binoculars.

  • Have children sit at story rug. Ask children names of some dinosaurs? Are dinosaur real? What does it mean to be instinct?

  • Read the book, How to Catch a Dinosaur by Wallace.

If time permits, have kids go back to Craft Table. Have them work on the How to Catch Dinosaur Worksheet. One side they draw a picture of a dinosaur. The other side is a searching game. Otherwise, give worksheets and stickers to go home.

Baby and Me Storytime
