Caterpillar

STEM Kit:

In this STEM kit, children will learn about caterpillars in a fun and educational way.

So, what is STEM? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Using STEM activities is a great hook to get young kids interested in these subjects early on.

So how do you do it? Begin with reading the book, A Caterpillar Becomes a Butterfly by Amy Hayes. Point out the different stages in the development of a caterpillar as you read. Use this instruction sheet and the photo’s included in the kit to help teach the four basic stages of a caterpillar.

· A small caterpillar starts as an egg.

· As soon as it emerges from an egg, it eats everything in sight.

· Finally when it is no longer hungry and no longer small it builds a cocoon around itself.

· When it finally emerges from the cocoon, it emerges as a beautiful butterfly.
