1. Storytime Introduction: Welcome to Toddler Storytime. My name is Ms. Debbie. I am so glad to see you today. Our storytime is designed to be participated by everyone. We will share books, rhymes, and songs with your children. We encourage everyone to participate, but no worries if this doesn't happen. Sometimes when a child sees you participate, they might join in, but if your child is not in the mood, that is okay too. Our storytime can tend to be a little chaotic, but that is okay as well. If your child becomes disruptive, please take them outside the program room and then join us again when your child has settled down. This is normal, it is part of the process. So, let's start with our opening song.
2. Opening Song:
(Credit: No Time For Flash Cards. 2016, January 30).
Lyrics:
How Many Friends are Here Today?
How many friends are here today?
How many friends are here today?
Let's count it out!
Let's clap it out!
Let's dance it out!
There are ______ friends on their feet!
Now it's time to take your seat!
3. Early Literacy Aside: Explain:
Today's early literacy skill is focusing on background knowledge. Background knowledge is information that children are taught and gain through experience. Researchers have found that it is easier for children with strong background knowledge to understand what they read when they are older. (Ghoting, S.N and Martin-Diaz, P. (2013). Storytimes for Everyone: Developing young children's language and literacy. p. 229.
4. Theme Talk:
Today our storytime is about bunnies and the letter B.
5. Action Song:
“Little Rabbit”
I saw a little rabbit go hop, hop, hop
I told that little rabbit to stop, stop, stop
He wiggled his ears and crinkled his nose
And wiggled, wiggled, wiggled right down to his toes.

6. Information Book: Bb by Bela Davis
7. Shakers Shaker Song
Sung to the tune of “London Bridge
“Shake your shakers, shake, shake, shake,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your shakers, shake, shake, shake,
Shake your shakers!
Other Verses
Shake your shakers high, high, high,
Shake your shakers low, low, low,
Shake your shakers fast, fast, fast,
Shake your shakers slow, slow, slow"
(Mulvenna, L. (2013, January 17)
8. Early Literacy: In order to learn, children need a lot of repetition. They need to hear words over and over again as you are doing things together. They also like you to read favorite books read over and over again. It may get boring for you, but their brains need repetition to learn language. So go ahead read it again!
9. Movement Activity:
If you’re hoppy and you know it, hop around
If you’re hoppy and you know it, hop around
If you’re hoppy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you’re hoppy and you know it, hop around.
…hop around
If you’re hoppy and you know it, shake your tail
If you’re hoppy and you know it, shake your tail
If you’re hoppy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you’re hoppy and you know it, shake your tail
If you’re hoppy and you know it, stomp your feet
If you’re hoppy and you know it, stomp your feet
If you’re hoppy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you’re hoppy and you know it, stomp your feet
If you’re hoppy and you know it, wiggle your nose
If you’re hoppy and you know it, wiggle your nose
If you’re hoppy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you’re hoppy and you know it, wiggle your nose
or for a younger crowd:
Hop With Me
To the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Hop, hop, hop along
Or bounce on someone's knee
HIgher, and higher and higher and higher
Bunny-hop with me!

11. Song:
The More We Read Together [Tune: "The More We Get Together" ]
Lyrics:
The more we read together, together, together.
The more we read together, the better it is!
'Cause reading and singing and talking together,
is how you learn the six skills for reading by six.
(Johnson County Library, 2011, February 8).
12. Activity
Prep: Hide plastic easter eggs eye level for children around the library. Inside eggs put in stickers, erasers or other non-food items in each egg.
Children will stand up and hop into the main library. Children will be told they can hunt for (one) Easter egg. Afterwards, children will go back to program room and to to story rug with their egg. Who can tell me the color of their egg?
13. Early Literacy Aside: By spending time talking to your child about their world, you are giving them the background knowledge they need to understand it. If they understand it in life, they will also understand it when they come upon it in a book.
(Ghoting, N.G and Martin-Diaz, P. (2013). Storytimes for Everyone: Developing young children's language and literacy).
14. Good-bye Song
(L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, 2014, September 28).
