Apples

Stem Jr. Kit

Kits:

Directions:

In this STEM kit, children will learn all about apples. Did you know that there are over 7,500 different kinds of apples in the world? Do you like apple cider? It takes 36 apples to make one gallon of apple cider.

China grows more apples than any other country in the world.

The pilgrims planted the first United States apple trees in Massachusetts.

After an apple seed is planted, it can take up to 8 years for it to produce apples. They can grow up to 30 feet tall.

Before an apple tree is ready to grow apples, it produces flower blossoms on the trees. Bees help apples grow. Bees land on the apple blossom to collect the nectar inside. When they land they also pick up pollen on their feet and body. When they fly to another apple tree blossom to collect more nectar, some of the pollen falls off. This pollen is needed for an apple tree to grow apples.

Apple trees can live up to 100 years old. Today, apples are grown in all 50 states.

So, let’s talk about the apple! There are five basic parts of an apple. They are:

1. The leaf

2. The stem

3. The seeds

4. The flesh

5. The skin

You can eat the flesh and the skin. The seeds can be planted in the ground. Then in about 8 years, you will have a new apple tree.

So let’s read,Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson. Afterwards review and color the worksheet called the Part of an Apple. Afterwards enjoy the craft included in this kit.
